Today's Devotion:
Purpose through Obedience
"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind."
Ecclesiastes 12:13 NIV
Ecclesiastes 12:13 NIV
What does it mean to be a human person that is created in God's image?
In the theology and doctrine of humankind (creation), we are God's creation whom find our value and call in God alone. We learn that we have been given purpose when He made us to bear His image.
What does bearing His image mean? It means that we are to rule, subdue and care for all of creation as His co-rulers, His image. We do this by obeying His commandments.
Today, we can do the same. This verse implies that our chief purpose in life is to fear God (because of love and respect) and to obey His commandments. We as human persons find our greatest purpose and value when we obey and fulfill God's will for us.
What is God calling you to do and obey today?
It is "to love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your strength. And to love your neighbour as yourself."
Let us pray;
Father, I am thankful that I have been created in Your image in Jesus Christ. I ask that by the Holy Spirit's power, I may find and fulfill Your purpose for me. Help me to be faithful today to love You and others. In Jesus' name. Amen.
